fountainscape

Installing a water feature is one way to enliven your outdoor space. If you’ve long been thinking about adding one in your yard but aren’t ready for work yet, consider starting with a fountainscape.

A fountainscape lets you enjoy the soothing sound and view of running water with very little maintenance.

Here at Aqualife Ponds, we specialize in custom water features in Southern California. We work with you to design and install a water feature to enhance your every day at home.

What is a Founstaincape?

A fountainscape is a water fountain feature, which could be standalone or incorporated in a bigger installation, such as a pond.

Fountainscapes differ in size and style. You can install one in your garden, deck, or patio. Depending on the design that you want, your contractor can complete your fountainscape within 1-2 days.

Fountainscape Designs You Can Choose From

The steps involved in installing a fountain feature are straightforward, that’s why it often attracts DIY enthusiasts. But first, let’s talk about some designs you can choose from.

  • Container Fountains. Container fountains are fountains inside a container. You can install one container or stack them for a more dramatic effect. Container fountains can be used as a starting point if you want to see how owning a water garden works.
  • Spillway Bowls. Spillway bowls, on the other hand, are decorative bowls that recirculate water back into their system for a continuous, spilling effect. Spillway bowls, also known as spillway basins, come in different sizes and designs. They’re usually installed in groups and serve as a focal point in outdoor living spaces.
  • Fountain Urns. Fountain urns, meanwhile, use decorative, tall, rounded vases. They also come in various designs and materials – from ceramic urns to brass. You can also work with your contractor to install them almost anywhere. You can even request to have tabletop fountains installed inside your home.
  • Fountain Spitters. Last, but not least, are fountain spitters. Unlike urns that are all aesthetic jars, spitters come in various forms. You can find fountain spitters in a frog, bird, or gargoyle design. You can also spot them in specially carved stone or brass structures. Chances are you’ll find new decorative options each year.

Step-by-Step Fountainscape Installation Guide

You probably are thinking you don’t have time to install a backyard fountain, yourself. Not to worry, that’s what we’re here for. There’s a simple way to install decorative fountains in your outdoor spaces.

Using fountain kits from Aquascape can make the process a breeze. DIY fountain kits are designed to make water feature installation convenient and efficient for homeowners.

But since the procedure still involves plumbing and some electrical work, it’s best left under the care of professionals. Here’s a step-by-step overview of how fountainscape installation goes:

  1. First, we choose a design that works for you. We take a look at available options, which grow year after year as Aquascape adds new decorative choices regularly.
  2. Every kit already comes complete with everything you need for the installation, excluding the gravel and tools like scissors and soil tappers. That’s why it helps to hire a contractor, so you no longer have to worry about this part.
  3. Once we identify the right spot for your fountain, we position the basin and mark the location. After which, we set aside the aquabasin for a while and dig a hole in the soil. We make the hole a few inches deeper and wider than the basin to make room for the gravel and backfill.
  4. We apply gravel and ensure the ground is level using a soil tapper before putting the basin in. Once the basin is in, we add backfill to all its sides to ensure it stays in position. Afterward, we check again to ensure that the basin is in a level position.
  5. The next step involves the plumbing line. Fountains come with a pre-drilled hole to accommodate the plumbing line. If your chosen fountain kit requires more than one plumbing, we need to drill additional holes in the basin using tools. The holes should be wider than the diameter of the pipe.
  6. Once the plumbing holes are set, it’s time to place the decorative fountain. The first thing on the list is to ensure it sits level on the ground. After which, we can now connect the pump to the plumbing hose.
  7. If you prefer a water feature that you can continue to enjoy at night, then lighting is necessary for your decorative fountain. We can drill holes on the basin to accommodate the lighting equipment and keep cables away from view.
  8. Afterward, we cover the basin with gravel or decorative stones to create a stunning water feature that blends with its surroundings. We also wash the dirt from the basin so the water won’t be murky once we add it in.
  9. Now, it’s time to add the water. After filling the basin, we turn on the pump and watch the water recirculate in the system. And there you have it. Your decorative water feature is ready to be enjoyed any time of the day.

Should I Install Fountainscapes On My Own?

Installing decorative fountains may seem easy, but there’s a lot more to this project than positioning the fountain.

It takes technical know-how to ensure that the fountain is set right – at an optimal position so you can enjoy it worry-free. For instance, close enough to viewing points such as windows or outdoor spaces such as decks, but at a safe distance from pathways.

Another factor you need to consider is the landscaping work around your fountain. Water features require landscaping knowledge to look natural and complement its environment.
